I have a 90 gallon DT mixed reef (not much sps yet, but would not like to exclude the possibility of more, but also like softies and LPS), one hydor koralia 1400, a decently powerful return pump, and a jabao wp 10. Originally I had a second koralia 1400 and thought that was too much flow, so I got the wp10 to give it a try. I'm not saying it does a bad job, but I've noticed my corals tend to sway in the same direction the majority of the time. My hammer in particular looks to be receding on one side and extending on the other, in my opinion, because that's the way the water is pulling it. Also, my RBTA's long, skinny tentacles are always pulled in one direction. I do have a tube anemome, which I believe prefers low flow, and is in a sheltered spot.
So I think I want to invest in a wavemaker. I don't need top of the line, able to follow with a gadget tracking seconds and exact flow. But I could spend $300 or so.
What are y'all's experiences and suggestions? Brands, concepts?
Thanks!

A tunze nano wavebox is in or close to that price range. I use one in my 75gal mix and I thoroughly enjoy it. Google it and look at some videos with it operating and see if that might be what your looking for.

Well, I got a JBJ wavemaker and plugged my 2 Hydor Koralia Evo 1400's in, and they click horribly on start-up, which is every 10 seconds! I've emailed Hydor, we'll see if they have a resolution for me. I hope my fish don't go crazy before then. :-[

Buy a jebao WP-25 and it will make a plenty big wave. It is also under $70. Great pump for the price.

I bought the JBJ 1600 powerheads to run with the wavemaker, not knowing I could run the Hydors on it. I decided to run the Hydors instead of the JBJs because the JBJs are rated at 1600 gph, where the Hydors are 1500 gph, and I think already give me a tad more flow than I need. But if I don't hear from Hydor soon, like tomorrow, I'll be putting the JBJs in. (I was hoping to return them!)

If your not worried about losing some space then I would use tunze nano, But if you don't want to take up space I would go with a MP40
