Wavemaker meltdown

The pics say it all. You can see where the plastic melted at some point between this morning and when I discovered the issue about 30 minutes ago. I can replace a wavemaker but is everything else toast too?

Don't be too concerned about your other equipment unless its due for being replaced. Everything has a its lifetime. do your self a favor if you can afford to do some and buy some name brand there's a couple if I remember correctly that log the hours and have a warning it thinks it need to be replaced soon.

I was worried that I might not be able to keep inverts or coral alive because of contamination and I was worried I would have to toss all my rock and sand, and have to start over, much like would happen if a heater broke

I will most likely buy name brand because this can't happen again. I will likely buy a couple smaller pumps instead of just one big one.

I did find a post about someone whose heater melted a plastic housing and they weren't worried about losing their livestock. I don't have any livestock yet so even if I did have to replace sand and rock it isn't nearly as bad as it would be to lose a bunch of coral, clams, fish etc and THEN have to replace sand, rock, etc

You don’t have to replace your sand or rock. Even when a heater breaks.

Sounds like a idea time to loose a wavemaker! yeah dont worry about the plastic in the tank

If i replaced everytime my heater broke then I would be broke! I got good luck with most equipment... but heaters are a constant issue for me lol.

I was thinking more like when a glass heater breaks apart like when one forgets to turn it off while doing a large water change.

I think if the water turns black and everything dies, then you might have to replace some other equipment. Short of that, smooth sailing.

I once melted the plastic bracket on my titanium heater, and by melted I mean the plastic liquified, dripped into the water and hardened. None of the equipment or wildlife (fish or corals) seemed to be affected. Always good to use carbon or have it onhand!
