Hey guys my name is Evan I am getting into the reef hobby by my friend from work. What is the best type of wavemakers for the Red Sea 250 reefer? I wanted a Gyre 230 but heard from a few people they can be noisy, not sure if that's true or not but I'm Not looking to spend 700 on 2 wavemakers like the vortechs. Let me know thanks guys.

I have a gyre 150 on my tank and its really not that noisy especially when you give it time to break in... and look at the jebao wave makers they are really good for the price... if not you can look at tunze and sicce but i have no experience with anything other than a gyre and jebao pumps..

Oscar thanks a lot I appreciate it. I saw the jebaos for 90$ a piece just thought I only need one gyre so I was gonna spend the money on the nicer wavemaker

no problem! and it all depends on the size of the jebao pumps you probably don't need the biggest models... and the gyre isn't enough for my 120 they do seem to lose some of their power as time goes on, it may be that mine needs a new ceramic shaft or motor, its been running for about 2 years though almost 3 i got it from a friend who had it for two years and I've had it for about 8 months...

Oh that's a decent amount of time then, the Red Sea 250 is only 56 gallons so it should be plenty for 1 pump and 2 jebaos. Didn't know if the gyres were better then the jebaos for the tiny bit of more money

yeah you can try one gyre it might be more than enough, but if i didn't have the gyre (i got it for free) i would just be using jebaos because they last just as long if not longer..

Ya true, trying to control the power cord situation lol gonna be putting it in my dining room I'm just soaking my dry rock now. I still need to order the tank so I have time

haha i agree chord management is a pain... and yeah plan your tank slowly and carefully don't rush it lol

I have an old model Gyre 130 on my 250. It moves a lot of water and is fairly silent unless running in reverse at high power. You'd probably be fine with just the 1 pump if there isn't a ton of rock to get around. I added a 2nd pump due to my rock structures.
