Hey all, new to the forum and somewhat new to saltwater aquariums (long time freshwater owner). Have had a 54 bowfront aquarium about a year now and have done regular maintenance and 30% water changes every 2 weeks.
About a month ago I did a 50% water change after nutrients were getting out of hand and algae was becoming an issue. I usually use instant ocean Reef salt but a friend of mine gave me a bucket of regular instant ocean and I used it by mistake and think that might be the root of my current problem. Since this water change the waving hands and Xenia's haven't opened up all the way and it appears some clusters may be dying. Everything else in the tank is doing great (algae isn't an issue anymore). All parameters are good and even had my supplier check all the levels including alkalinity and others I don't have test kits for, and he said my water may be too clean. It's been a month now with no change. I've tried changing lighting and flow for these two corals and nothing has helped. I use reef roids for the corals (broadcast) once a week. I have since done another 30% with the reef salt 2 weeks ago.
Am I missing something? I could use some more tips and tricks to try and keep them alive. Here are photos, the Xenia's used to be a large cluster and now they don't open more than half way. The waving hands barely get bigger than my pinky nail whereas before they were quite big when open.
