Well, figured I would share this. Going to skip the build stuff since it is a year old already.

The tank is a standard 120 trimless planet aquarium, I built the stand and converted a 40 breeder for the sump. For filtration I keep it simple, just a big skimmer and water changes. Lighting is 4 AI hydras (non-HD) on a 14 hour photo period that is 5 hour ramps and a 4 hour "mid day". Max power is about 65%.

My newest toy is a GHL P4 controller I picked up at MACNA. I got a doser, fan unit and vortech controller too, but those needed to be shipped.

Newest living things are 6 Fiji SPS, 1 open brain, 1 octo spawn and a branching sun coral (my first ever NPS) I picked up at MACNA.

I had some equipment issues over the summer. First was a faulty top of pump that fried and I suspect polluted my top off container. Second was a faulty heater/controller that was overheating my tank even tho it showed a reasonable temp. I did not figure that one out until it totally failed and made my tank feel like bath water. These two things cost me a few colonies and made everything in the tank very pale. Things are looking better, but I am still recovering.

If you have questions ask away.

Glad to see you now on R2R. It is always good to see the SPS people migrating over.

What are your parameters/ nutrient levels? Do you have any bio media in the sump to make up for the minimal rock in the display? Don't see any in the pic but maybe I'm missing it. Thanks

The only thing I test is Ca and Alk. I keep the Ca between 400 and 450 ppm, Alk between 7.5 and 8 dkh. There is no additional filtration media in the sump. I have about 100 lbs of rock in the display.

Hey all. Had some interesting stuff go on during my absence. My tank took a nasty turn and I lost all my acros slowly over a few months. That really sucked. Was never able to get to the bottom of the problem. I started grad school for a MBA in November. We finally sold our house in March and moved into a town house. Plus some family drama.

I was able to save all my LPS, zoas and montis. Unfortunately I lost half my fish and a clam during the move. To make matters more interesting I was unable to use my old stand at the town house. I was not able to move it through the house to the location where we wanted to keep it due to narrow doors. I had to order a stand and wait for it to come in.

The tank is back up, but with no rock. There is a good possibility work may require a move in the not so distant future so I am keeping the tank simple and "moveable".

Other than more water this is how things are going today. Not having the tank fully up is kind of a bummer.

I love how you painted the inside of your stand white! The rest is looking great too!

Thanks, but I do not have that stand anymore. I had issues getting it in the townhouse we bought and had to get another.

Well here is my tank today. After loosing all my acros and a move. I have not started to deal with adding rocks yet. My work situation is not the best so I am looking for a new job. In my line of work there is not much opportunity here so moving again is highly likely, probably to Houston.

Sooooo. Are there any good LFS in NW Harris county? We are moving. Lost my Houma,LA job in early July, found a new Houston, TX one in late July. We are moving back to Cypress, TX. Will purchase house on Tuesday, stuff arrives Thursday. I had to hire someone to take care of my tank for a few weeks until I can get back to move it. We have a sale for our Houma house already.

Guess I need to reactivate my MARSH account.

Tank is looking great. It appears you switched from gyres to mp40’s, happy with th3 switch?
Hehe. My tank is real bare right now. I do prefer the vortecs over the gyres.

Well after two moves in 5 months the tank is on the mends. It has been set up in the current house since October of last year. Been selling and trading off things. My goal is to reduce both the number and variety of thing in my tank to have larger colonies. I got two cabinets from IKEA to house all the support gear, test kits, additives, etc. It really cleane

Tank looks a lot different than the last time I saw it. Sorry about to hear about the job and moves , moving is bad enough, with a tank or work drama.... no fun. Are you still running the hydras - blues and Vs near 100% and White around 60 and I think you had red and green high as well ?

It happens. At least I found a new job.

It still use hydras. Lowers the power a little. White 40% max and everything else at 80% max.

The oil industry has been abit volatile the last few years ... looking forward to seeing the 120 get back to where your 60 was !

It has. Steady for a while would be nice. I hope this one can get as nice as the 60 was. As long as I do not have to move again it should.
