Hi, I know the simplest solution is dump and start over. But it's 60 gallons that already has salt mixed in. Its got a heater and power head full time. No aeration because its in a garage and not sure if the air is that great in there. I noticed when I lifted the cover off the 70 gallon black Rubbermaid bin.
It has a very slight waft of skimmate scent. If possible I'd like to save this. Would adding some H2O2, 3% kill whatever bacteria bloom provoked this smell?

I find anytime water sits it produces bacteria. I've never had a problem. as long as it doesn't smell like pee.

I made the safest choice and dumped it. Thing is, my ATO and WC reservoir are both fed off the same RO/DI. I cleaned out the bin and am refilling. This to be 100% sure it's not contaminated city water. If this new make-up in a clean bin smells again this evening, this would be bad.

*Last summer there was a diesel spill in the river which ended up in the drinking system :(

What brand saltmix? If no organics it can be stored indefinitely. No heater or constant mixing required.

I keep salt stored and change out ~1% daily automatically. My saltmix brute container is very musty smelling. That is common.
