Hey everyone, wanted to create a journal on the build of my Elos 120 I acquired recently.

Upgrading from a Elos 70 that I had previously, I came across the 120 from a friend for a great price and it just happened to fit perfectly on the wall where the 70 had been (That's what I told my wife at least).

I have had several tanks in the past few years and realized I was never as happy as when I had a true mixed reef, there was just so much to look at, so much life everywhere. This tank will be the culmination of everything I feel that I have learned about the hobby and what I want out of it.

Equipment list:
Tanks - Elos 120 tank and stand
Lighting - 2x Radion xr 30 G3 pro
Flow - Tunze 6095's
Return - Jaebo 18k controllable DC
Sump - Trigger Triton 44"
Control - Apex
Skimmer - Reef octopus 110
Fuge light - Kessil H380 Halo II

After tearing down the Elos 70 I moved all my livestock and coral to my closet frag tank and put the 120 in place, my daughter excited at the prospect of having more fish to take care of, she is the fish keeper in the house.

A few days later I got my order of Marco Shelf rock. I ordered the "Shelf rock 60" kit along with 20lbs of prime cuts and Emarco.

In the end a buddy and I came up with this:

And this is the view from the couch in the den.

Next steps will be to drain the Triton sump from under the frag tank and do plumbing and transfer everything over. qqV2D9d.jpg

Following along live my elos glass is so clear! What size return pump do you plan on running? Hard or soft plumb?

Oversized Jaebo DC return pump. will run it at less than half power for sure, I am doing a hybrid of PVC and spa tube for the overflow, for the return I am going to be lazy and just flex tube it.

Excellent start! Nice to have fish helpers.

Nice build so far, I like that scape!

Got the plumbing done tonight, elos overflow is always a little tricky, used a section of spa flex and hose barbs to make the initial 90 coming down and then hard plumbed the rest.

The return is basic as you can get braided vinyl tube, I've done hard plumb with manifolds but I never end up using any of it in the end, plus this was much easier[emoji23]

I like the soft plumbing to hard plumbing... I probably should have done that... it's so tight in the overflow area. Would like to see what flow rate you get through the drain... I'm running about 1000gph it's not dead silent but close enough. Love how you hid the plumbing great job!

Very nice! Congratulations!

Looking great man love the flow through fuge!! Its moving along quickly congrats!

Looks amazing, solid upgrade for sure!

Really enjoying the view from the couch now.

Water has cleared up nicely and everything is looking really good.

So far I've had a light dusting of brown diatoms on the rock and glass, chaeto is still growing fantastic as well, fingers crossed that I won't see a huge cycle with the way I did things.

Mixed reef for sure, I have tried to do species only tanks but in the end I always end up wanting other things in it, will do sps up on the high rocks, and lps/softies down low, plan to have several zoa gardens.

A friend of mine is switching tanks and had some fish he didn't want to move to his new setup, I was stoked to get some healthy fish to add to the larger setup.

Welcomed a beautiful tomini tang and a schoal of 5 redstripe cardinal fish!
