Week 3 of cycling

I went from the aqua one mini reef 215 to the Cade pro reef 1500 s2.. both are still running I just wanna get my fish moved into their new home.. I’m not sure about my nitrites being 0.5

According to @Randy Holmes-Farley nitrite isn’t harmful to the fish and you’re good to add them.

For some context I added my 3 fish to my new tank about a week ago with elevated nitrites and they’ve been 100% fine. I’m just monitoring nitrate to make sure that doesn’t get too high and doing 20% water changes weekly until the nitrites die off

Nitrite is not toxic to marine fish. Ignore it and throw away the nitrite test kit.

Do a 50% change if you can and add your fish after a day. Double check your salinity and ammonia just to make sure. Then just watch nitrates and start routine water changes.

Hello fellow reefers! I just past the 2 week mark of cycling my tank using dr tims one and only and dr tims ammonia. I used live sand and some rock from my existing tank as well. My current parameters are Nitrate 20, Nitrite 0.5, Ammonia 0. I got the same results from API and Red Sea test kits. What do you think am I ready to do a water change and add fish or not yet? Any advice appreciated

Wash, rinse , repeat and add fish.

I am guessing that the decrease in Ammonia is the indication that NO2 is going up and once ammonia is gone the NO2 will fall also....Just a guess

You watch Nitrate.

In any event after 4 weeks the tank is cycled, no matter what the test kits say.

do you follow this for barebottom, dry rock tanks or only for live rock with a substrate of some sort?

It doesn't matter.

Even a bare tank will have sufficient bacteria on surfaces to process any normal level of ammonia created by a couple of fish

if you go crazy by adding 2 ppm ammonia all bets are off.

i’m 3 weeks into it. going to run a seneye for the first couple of months to watch for free ammonia.

Seneye is good. I travel a lot and my tank often goes 4 weeks without me stressing about it due to the Seneye and lots of automation.

awesome to know, i thought i jumped the gun without properly looking into it. any tips on running one ?

if i leave it connected to a laptop that is connected to the internet does it still allow for access over wifi or do you need the wifi module for that to work ?
