Week three

We are on week three and our tank has went through cycle. Current #
pH 8.1
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5.0 (and dropping)
Do we want to just start wil snails and hermits?? Or can we start with some damsels???

Hi and Welcome to R2R.

There is probably not enough food for snails at week 3, so I would only get hermits.

If you intend to keep the Damsels and not just use them to facilitate your cycle you could probably add one or two, and continue testing.

I should have added that we have four live rock and lots of hitchhikers. What do snails typically eat?? The algae??

Snails are mostly algae eaters, a few varieties like Nassarius Snail also eat detritus, they are scavengers.

Agreed with Tahoe. If your end game tank is envisioned with damsels, get them. If you don't actually want them don't get them. It's a lot harder and more traumatizing to get them out of the tank than you think.
