If you like the look of the idol you could get a pennant coral fish very similar in looks and less care

My black tang hates my idol and I had to put him in time out. My powder blue hated everyone and I had to rehome him because he was aggressive to the point of killing. Worse than my sohal by far. Sohal would fight but it was only occasionally, but the blue constantly looked for someone to go after and wouldn’t let up unless they got away and stayed hidden in the rocks.

I think I’ll eliminate the angler, the jaw fish, and the powder blue tang. I’ve heard the purple tangs can be problematic too.

I’m planning on introducing them in 3 phases. First phase will be Anthias, basslet, and Blenny. Second phase will be eel, lineatus, gobies, trigger, and idol (if I decide to). All the tangs and the emperor will be the last phase. I’ll add the mandarine whenever the pod population allows for it.

Does this sound reasonable? Should I switch any fish to other phases or create additional phases? Of course one of the hardest parts is finding all those fish at the same times.

I think it is a good call to eliminate the angler and jawfish, I would probably scrap the idol as well due to how poorly they handle stress. Your tank will be 8' long, IMHO the rest of the fish can work. I have first hand experience with tang aggression. My situation is unusual which helped me figure out the personality of my tangs. I have a clown trigger in my tank and he isn't as bad as you would expect, but he is definitely aggressive. My purple tang was a bully, until my clown trigger matured and became the largest fish in the tank. He is built like a tank and no other fish in the tank could do much to him. After he became the alpha, my tangs and 2 rabbit fish became calm. My harlequin tusk also mellowed out. He is actually the stabilizing force in my tank. Going back to your list, I think all the tangs can be fine together if there is a much more powerful fish in the tank to keep everyone in check, but not killing them.
