Hi all. found this growing on the bottom of my frag. Looks like a micro anemone. Any ideas on what it is? Any help appreciated

Hmm...

do you have any rock anemones? they almost look like baby rock anemones

I do not have any rock anemones. I only have one bta. I acquired that frag from a freind about 4 months ago. He said that he has nothing like what’s growing on the frag now in his tank. He also has no idea what it can be.

I have had little guys like these for years. Mine are the same size, but a little more textured. Mine are brown and green in white/blue light, but if you put them under intense blue for a while they replace the brown with orange and purple.

Mine are all around 1/2" in diameter and they multiply by division. The low profile means that they rarely touch corals, and they can move away as well. They don't cluster very much, but a few may hang out together. I have found no need to get rid of mine so they remain. They're much better than aiptasia/majano.

As for an actual ID, I haven't been able to find one. I saw one photo online years ago that resembled it, but I think it was an old wetwebmedia question someone had, and they couldn't offer much info about it. Hopefully an expert chimes in here!

sweet! Thanks for responding. They are pretty cool. So...do you think they are anemones or mushrooms?

I would love to see a picture of your tank and possible a pic of your little anemones :)

I tried getting a pic in my current tank but they're all pretty far back from the glass. Only the front glass is clear (relatively) so I can't really get close enough. I found a pic from my tank 7 years ago though (low-tech 29 gallon):

It's right in front, below the monti. Here's the current version of the tank:

They are definitely anemones, but technically mushrooms are too. I'm fairly confident these little guys aren't mushrooms though. They walk around more (sometimes I'll find one on the glass, on a powerhead, etc) and they don't bud-off clones. They just divide.

Thanks for those pics. I love your tank. Your small anemone does look similar except for the texture like you said. I’ll just wait a while and let it grow and see what they end up like. Thanks
