Weird coral identification

that’s a good shout, the thing it’s about 2inches in diameter it would have to be a big squid

I'll go out on a limb and propose that the most likely answer is that marine worms entered this thing through the damaged area and are eating it from the inside.

But it would be cool if they were babies of some sort :)

Maybe time for just a little slice'n'dice surgery?

I am thinking this is a type of tunicate in the Genus Aplidium (sea pork). Apparently they can be colonial inside the mass. I think the "things" you see in the mass are individual organisms. Or... I could be wrong!

Here is a link to what I am talking about.

Looking at that link you provided than googling that a peek think by its scientific name I’m wondering if that’s what that other guy had

Why do people always want to cut things open?

Because inquiring minds want to know ;)

The way I see it, this 'thing' already has quite a bit of damage so a small incision to remove one of the crawlies inside won't make any difference.

Of course it's up to the OP how he wants to proceed...
