Weird Growth in Pipes

No worry, the display tank will thrive with help from guys like these. Fish love tanks with lots of growth but hobbyist's would rather have immaculate tanks with only fish & coral.

Ok so it's been a while, and I figured I'd open it up and check on the pipes again. This is what it looks like now.

Any further input on this?

Makes me think of those tiny pineapple sponges. But now that it's darker it doesn't look the same

If you have ever cut pvc pipe on a tank that's been running for some time, like over a year, you will see the entire inside covered in brown slime. This is most likely nitrifying bacteria.

Now this may be that, mixed with some algae. Even with small amounts of light, algae spores can grow and photosynthesize.

You've got some weird funk going on in your hoses!

Yes, "uptown funk"! Lol

It's algae. Cover the hose if you can or replace it with spa-flex hose and it will go away. ( not the nitrifying bacteria, but the algae will disappear)
