Weird protein skimmer issue.

I have a seaclone 100 protein skimmer (yes poor choice but that I could afford at the time. Looking to upgrade at some point) and 7 months in I'm just now having this issue after cleaning it. A giant air bubble forms in the water line and it stops skimming. Bubbles get trapped in the elbow and build up into a large air space and it just stops skimming but water is still flowing through the skimmer. Any fixes? Is it a tuning issue?
