Okay, to preface, I kind of have a weird skimmer-fuge combo setup made out of one of those Fluval HOB breeding boxes. Because of it being ran via air pump, it actually helps pull a lot of junk out of the water. It's cheap, I already had an air pump, and it was super easy to set up. I also like the way it looks and because all around it was about $20, with a Reef Glass Nano being $90 and doing basically the same job but without being a combo fuge, I think it's a good deal. There's some sand particles trapped in it but I plan on using it as a way to suck out water for water changes in the future, so the sand isn't a problem.
Also: I have bristleworms. I actually don't mind them in my tank, and I have a 3D printer - if any of them got to be a nuisance or there got to be too many, I could always just 3D print a trap and move them to something else or dispose of them. I just wanted to say just in case someone said something about being able to see one.
But what in god's name is this thing? It appears to be stringy with a partially transparent slime on it in some places, and it's red, and there's some trapped sand particles. In this image it's apparently attached to the ground but now it's floating in the corner. Is it just some weird gross thing I should get rid of? What is it?
