Weird sand shifting???! !!!

My sand looks all outta whack very hilly. It's almost as if something was digging something out

2 clowns

2 damsels

1firefish

4 hermit crabs

1 cleaner shrimp

Which can be the culprit?

I don't know if any of the listed animals may be doing it..... Do you have any pumps or powerheads directed at or around that area?

Nope not at all it's just really weird. Can't really tell by the picture but its definitely something unusual

It's the clowns or firefish. They nestle in the sand sometimes to redecorate to their liking. I used to deal with it all the time.

Do the damsels hang around that area often? I have had one that cleared a small area of sand before..... I think it's a territorial behavior.

In a spot pretty close to that. They hang out under one of the rocks

It shouldn't be that much of an issue...unless of course the sand starts covering corals..... If you're desperate you could move the aquascape.

I was thinking of moving the aqua scape around...but I didn't want to stress the fish in any way

I did a major move around 3 months ago. I had the tank almost fully stocked with fish and coral and they didn't seem to mind. In fact, my clown stopped bullying my firefish and left some of my corals alone (she tries to host in all of them!).

Yea, when my clowns slept on the sand bed, I had this happen every couple of days...on a much MUCH smaller scale though lol

Damsels dig around in the sand. They make a nest under a rock. I like the wavy look.

the clowns and damsels are doing it... one of my pairs at one time slept in one spot against the back glass down in the sand.. they had spots down half way compared to sand around it just like that. and a local reefer just poster recently a damsel doing it.

As soon as someone mentioned about clowns doing it, it clicked that that is what this is. My clowns do it, used to be worse but they have settled down more. I never had a hill THAT big though.

It's either the clowns or the damsel. I have both those fish and have seen them both stir the sand. The clown does it most of the time though

Yeah the sand was covering corals and rock...ill pay closer attention to who it really is. As for the damsels I have seen em shift sand in some live rock but not to the point where the sand looks a gopher came out of
