Weird spots .... what do you think? Mimic Tang

Hey guys

My yellow mimic tang has some weird markings on him. He is active, eating like a pig, and shows no signs of flashing, feeling uncomfortable, etc. overall very happy healthy looking fish.

Been in my tank for about 7 months now. Just recently noticed these markings but they come and go, some days it shows like the pictures, some days they’re not there. They don’t get much worse or bigger than the pictures show.

Can anyone shine some light on what this may be?

As far as my water parameters, I️ can list them all but it’s easier to just say they are within normal ranges, and all my coral and fish are thriving. Tank is mature and healthy.

Sorry, I️ just be more detailed. The markings are on the top fin, and bottom fin. You’ll notice the bottom fin has spots on the edge of the fins. The top one has a little blurry dot, small one, with a “ring” like circle around it. You can see the light circle in one of the pics, and the dot in the other pic.

Looks healthy, certainly not skinny. I think he is fine! Do you QT fish? Does any other fish have problems? I think this is just color change with behavior/lights. He looks good to me!

The one on the top with the circle around it is most concerning. But nothing I would be too worried about unless it gets worse or more of them

I️ do not QT - unfortunately

Because if this I️ think they may have some internal parasites but I️ keep them well fed and happy so I️ think it’s countering it lol

I️ have noticed the tangs colors changing sometimes but not the spots :/

I’ll keep an eye out to see if it gets worse. Doesn’t look like it will

Unfortunately, not quarantining fish, especially acanthurus tangs, is like playing with dynamite.

I am not sure I see any definitive issues. Watch for redness (possible infection) or scratching (possible flukes/ich/velvet).

I know @Humblefish and @melypr1985 are hit or miss for good reasons lately but let’s see if their available. Also @Maritimer and #reefsquad

I think I got everyone. My guess would be internal parasites. I like the way Jason said it. “Playing with dynamite”

Yea I️ definitely agree about the QT. Unfortunately I️ don’t have room for a QT in my tiny apartment

My next build will definitely be more planned. This was my first tank ever.

There could be some sort of cyst or similar in his dorsal, but I'm not sure it's something that'll require an intervention. It seems as though he's going into his color change, I'm not sure if that change is always perfectly smooth and even or not . . .

Thank you all for your comments. It does get darker in color, and brightens up again from time to time - After reading some more, I learned it changes it's colors often as it matures.
