Weird white outline around coral

Forgot the name of this coral but it seems to have a weird white outline in between the polyps? Started off small now seems to be spreading.

I'll check it again later after lights have been on a while and see if it goes

I'm not very experienced but skeleton exposure might sound like slow tissue necrosis (STN). Someone else might know better than I tho.

I think it’s a Goniopora that’s closed up completely. +1 STN is slow tissue necrosis, but is it STN, that I’m not positive.

Try to feed some reef roids & see if it responds.

Nah definitely not a goni. Got one of those in the tank already, I think the name began with an F maybe.

Just checked parameters. Only real change was alk dropped to 7. Usually sits around 7.5-8

That looks like a short polyp goniopora that's receding. Chemistry swings and low nutrients can be a culprit.

Agree I think it’s a gonipora. Doesn’t look like a Favia. Probably just closed up and tissue is retracted. I don’t see any other corals near this but keep in mind some corals will throw out 5-6 inch sweeper tentacles at night and that can certainly kill/irritate corals.

Only coral which Is sort of near is some zoas but not that close.

Zoas wouldn’t do that. I do still think it’s a gonipora, but you bought it so would know better. The small flower like extensions are characteristic of goni. If it keeps receding you can try to dip it, I like revive, to see if you can get it to stop or slow. Good luck!

That favia looks nothing like your coral and requires different parameters. Look up short polyp goniopora. You can see the polyps retracting in your coral.

That is what it looks like 90% of the time. So I'm finding it hard to accept it's a goni haha.
Was sold to me as a favia for 10 bucks.

It's been doing fine up until now so think I'll give it a dip today
