So just had a thought while I was unboxing my bp I just got in today. People run carbon and GFO in the same reactor. Possible to do the same with bp? Now, I would assume the tumbling would break done the bp faster. Just currious.

The BP need to run in separate and tumble.
Carbon needs to be packed stationary and water forced through it. If it moves it will create dust.

Did not mean to sound snotty I've just had such issues with carbon dosing when my alk is above 8 so I'm surprised when no one else brings it up ! I dont know why it happens but I check my alk every day I just switched to dosers and it creeped up to 9 so I had to stop carbon dosing while I slowly brought it down !

It's online now and tumbling like crazy. I can't believe how good it tumbles the pellets. I was able to get some pellets that have been running on a system for a few months, and I added a little bit of new ones. It's not much like I said i'm starting slow but i'm off to the races

I just bought a dr tims unit and placed the pearls in there today. We talk about big changes of nitrates but mine are already under 5ppm i would assume my phosphates are a little high just because i have two spots of feather algea in my tank very small about 1 inch by inch total in a 60 gallon. All pearls are tumbling very well and im really hoping that i will begin to see this feather algea die off in a few weeks. Im dosing with microbactra and dr tims waste away to boost my biological filtration and help get cultures to the pearls. Now reading this im a little affraid ive made a bad choice. But in light of dr tims and seeing first hand that i cycled my reef tank in a week using his one and only i think im going to stick with it and see what happens any thoughts???

Why do you think you made a bad choice?

Because everyone has a horror story and im just trying to get rid of 2 spots of algea. One of which i just dipped in peroxide and is now almost gone. Was scared doing it since it was on a 30 polyp frag of blue hornets but they look good so 1 spot down

I've been running bio pellets for 14 months now. I keep my alk between 8-9dkh. My phosphates never measure over .04ppm. I built mine up slowly, only have to add pellets about every 5-6 months. Main thing is, they're not a silver bullet. Keep up with all your regular maintenance, watch you alk and everything will be fine.

hey congratulations on your purchase let us know how it goes

Not to Hijack but I just want to get this straight as I have heard differing opinions.......Carbon shouldNOT tumble and BioPellets SHOULD tumble. What about GFO tumble or not?

Gfo not tumble with just a little movement at surface is what I was told.
