Due to fear of my tank (older than the hills) springing a leak, we have decided to do an upgrade from our 45 to a 75. The lfs has 75 gallon tanks on sale for $100...we couldn't pass it up. This weekend we will be making the switch. We'll eventually have to upgrade our skimmer, but we're not planning on upping the bioload anytime soon, so we'll be alright for a while at least. I have to say, I'm pretty excited!!! Any advice from people? I'm planning on moving everything into 5 gallon buckets, and preserving as much of the water as I can. We moved the current tank when we purchased it used, so I'm somewhat familiar with how to do this. If anyone has any tips or advice, let me know!

Congrats on the upgrade!! Good luck with the swap. The last time I did a swap, it was done as you suggest.

Which LFS? Preuss?

i did pretty much the same thing when I switched from my cube. I bought new live sand and didnt re-use the old stuff though. saved as much of the water as I could and made the switch!

i'd reuse the rock, but I would not try and transfer the sand bed if you have one. Way to much organic waste trapped in sand beds typically.

The sand was new just a few months ago, so it should be okay, right? I was planning on using it because it hasn't had much of a chance to gather too many nutrients. Thoughts?
