My RBTA took a walk into one of the PH's in my 20g nem tank. This tank is in my workshop, this morning when I went to feed the fish the tank was cloudy! Looks like the smaller RBTA decided to move during the night. lucky it was the smallest one but still was able to foul the water. The two clowns looked alright and were swimming in and out of the bigger RBTA, haven't seen the Purple Firefish, Royal Gramma and Rainford Goby this morning, hopefully they're okay and will be out when I get home later. Corals look okay from what I could see except for one of the Rock Flowers that has started to move.
I cleared the nem out of the PH and wasn't able to save it, it was too badly mangled. I put a bag of GAC in the filter sock and another in the section right before the return pump. I ran out of salt with the last WC this past weekend, I'll pick some up on the way home and do a 50% WC. Does this sound right, did I miss anything?

Ouch. ;Sour

Sounds like a reasonable approach. Is it a pretty established tank?
Depending on the size of the rbta compared to the tank, I might be concerned about a little ammonia.

With any luck, the water will be clear, fish will be out, and larger rbta will be splitting by the time u get home :)

Like it never even happened

Sounds like your doing all you can, several large water changes over a few days is probably your best course of action.. I had a carpet nem nuke my first tank while I was at work, took out everything but a couple fish!

I have had a number of nems get caught in powerheads. Now I will only put nems in tanks with protected powerheads. I currently have 2 x BTA and 2 x Haddoni carpets in a 40b with an MP40WQD with a Nem Protect cover on it. Haven't had a single nem accident since adding the Nem Protect.

I bought 2 of these for my MP40's. Tight fit but work great. I used to have 2 250 Gyres & had a very nice carpet get caught in one so switched to the MP40QD's.

Thanks guys! The tank is still fairly new and was set up the beginning of January. After this fiasco the PH's are getting covered.

Yay! looked at the webcam I have set up next to the tank and saw the Rainford out and about and the Gramma poked his head out of his cave for quick look. Still no sign of the Firefish. The water seems to be clearing a little, I can now see to the other side of the tank when before it was too cloudy.

Gotta love webcams for peace of mind. Looking at the tank now, it's clear and looks like it never happened; Firefish is out now too.

this times 1000. There are plenty of guards you can find 3-D printed on eBay and elsewhere fairly cheaply. The only time I’ve lost anemone in the past several years is when the guard came off for cleaning and I failed to put it back on. Sure enough the next day the Mertens decided to take a walk and got blendered. all of the fish died it was truly one of the worst days and reefing i have had. I did not do any water changes afterward because everything except the clowns were dead. I did get a big spike of algae growth over the next 2 to 3 weeks however. Definitely get the guards you won’t regret it
