I live in a rural area of the country(Maine). My water is supplied by a drilled well. We have a rather expensive whole house filtration system set up. My question is: Do I still need an RO-DI filtration system. I have a 29 gallon fresh water tank that has been running for a number of years now. Thanks for any response.

If you are asking the question for your fresh water tank…..probably not.

If you are asking because you want to set up a saltwater reef tank…..probably Yes.

As stated, the answer is in your tds reading. Let me open the can of worms….with a reef tank you’ll ideally want zero TDS water.

Sorry about that. It is for a saltwater reef. Was just saying that I have had the freshwater for a number of years with no problems.

Yes you will want a RO/DI system so you can provide nothing but pure water. Deep wells often have high mineral content, this is why it usually tastes so good and your whole house filter probably does not remove all of this.

When you order the rodi unit make sure you get a tds meter that way you will know when to change the filters. Some people that have well ahve to change their filters more often then someone on county water.
