Well unfortunately the most catastrophic thing happen that everyone hopes doesn’t happen. At 1:30am this morning I woke up to what I thought was rain. Well it wasn’t, it was my 265 seal busted and was raining down water inside my house. The front panel bottom seal completely separated and dumped at least 50g+. Right now heart broken.

Sorry for your disaster, but it does happen.

I had a 180g tank open a seam in the middle of the back glass in the middle of the night... why do these happen in the middle of the night?

I was just happy I live in SW Florida, have a house on a concrete slab rather than with a finished basement underneath and on all tile floors rather than carpets. Ugly? You bet! I did lose all the bathroom cabinets on the other side of that wall. But it could have been a lot worse.

A friend of mine had 2, not one, but two, 220g tanks split wide open across the front glass and dump all 200+ gallons on the floor. They had to replace quite a bit of drywall as several rooms held water for hours until they got home from work... hey, it didn't happen in the middle of the night! Probably worse for them!

I hope you can recover from this. I did. I now build my own tanks and make them safer than what is sold on the market.

Omg I am so sorry this happened!! Was this a new tank? So scary...
Not a new tank unfortunately. So no warranty which sucks.

Well my thinking is I’m glad it happened at night when I was home and not while I was at work or better while I was out of town. I stopped majority of the water but still a disaster. Atleast the weekend is here and I can do some damage control.

Hey man, sorry to hear about this. Any idea what could have caused this? Was your tank level before and after you added rock and water? I just got my tank leveled out and was worried about this same exact thing. It gave me so much anxiety just thinking about coming home from work to see something like that. Just trying to understand what happened from your experience.

Tank was level and running for at least 3+ months. Still confused on what happened. Would not wish this upon anybody.

Sorry to hear this. Were you able to save the livestock?
Had to leave for work this morning so all live rock is still in tank. I didn’t finish cleaning everything until almost 5am this morning then I have to leave at 6. So I may not be able to save much as I don’t have much salt to mix and would have to go buy a tank to store the rock which isn’t possible right now.

As of livestock, all my snails went into a 20g I have and 5 fish, 2 clowns, 2 yellow tangs, 1 Hippo tang in a 20g atm as well. Honestly don’t know where the fish will go as of right now. Will have to figure that out. Maybe back to LFS or give them awhile. Can’t really dish out money for a new tank at the moment.

Sorry for your troubles. Dang. I live in earthquake country and am always wondering "what if"?
