Hey all. Here's my little guy. He's been in the tank for about 3 weeks. I've noticed some tissue recession around the sides but I worry that I'm killing him. He is directly below the lights but it's about 80-120 par where he is.
Also he has constantly been "pooping" or expelling his waste for about a week.
What do you think?
Also the lights have been off for about an hour, I turned them on for the pic.

In my experience with open brain coral they don't like phosphates so make sure those are in check.
Are you feeding him? He's most likely just shooting poop out its normal, mine does it All the time when I feed more frequently.
Does he inflate or grow in size when the light get turned on?
Hope this helps

Maybe #LPSExperts can help?
Quick stats-
Calcium-450
Alk:8.8-9.2 (I only got a "round about" number)
Mag-1400
Nitrate:0-5

When I bought him he had a little tissue recession but it's getting worse. I'm trading him in for a baby scoly tomorrow but I need to know if this is going to affect the scoly or if it's isolated.

He did for the first little bit. Now he doesn't inflate. I have broadcast fed the fish. I haven't seen his tentacles out to feed him :(
Also I have a reactor that keeps phos and nitrates down.

It looks isolated to this coral. I think the scolymia will be fine. I've had a little tissue recession on my Trachyphyllia geoffroyi (due to that $&#&% flame angel), but he is recovering nicely. I think yours would recover if you just left him alone.

My toadstool has been half closed the past week. Could it be the trachy? He's about 3" from him.

Just for a quick check what is your PO4 currently at. As far as lighting I keep mine around the 50 par mark seems to really like it. Did you dip the piece before putting it in the tank.

No, I think the Trachyphyllia is just adjusting to the new lighting. Did you use an acclimation program for your lighting?
No I didn't...I thought he was in such low par that it wouldn't matter. He was expanding normally a week ago. Do you think his zoanthelle (or however you spell it) is expelling because he's overloaded?

I got a Goni at the same time and he's doing fabulously

Yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking. The coral could be purging symbiotic zooxanthellae that are less conducive to your lighting regimen. But, don't worry. I'm completely bleached my Trachyphyllia by accident, but he recovered and is doing better :)

I did dip with coral rx

Thanks for the vote of confidence lol
And no angels. Just a clown a six line and an orchid dottyback.

He doesn't look all that bad. Yes, he's stressed. Yes, he's got some tissue recession that he had when you bought him. But they can be very resilient corals, and I'd bet if you kept him longer he would bounce back. The location you've got him seems to be perfect.
