Wesley's 40 Breeder Sumpless

Our yellow tang took care of hair algae pretty quick! I can't recall if you had one already. How are the corals looking now?

I had a small Yellow Tang that ate up all my Dragon's Breath. I tried to supplement it with seaweed, but he just didn't like it and ended up starving to death.

Wow, its been over 6 months since I've don't an update on my 40 Breeder. Well, after having my reef tank up for a little less than 3 years, I needed to make some changes. I am happy that my tank is where I want it, but for some reason, I just wasn't enjoying it like I thought I would. Maybe because I'm not on the constant hunt for new corals or maybe its just reef keeping fatigue. I new I had to make some type of change, in order to keep my saltwater interest up. So I finally decided to partition about half my 40 Breeder to house a few pairs of designer clownfish. If you look, I have another thread about keeping 5-6 different clowns all together, but that was a disaster. Poor clowns.

Oh, before I forget, I was able to pickup (2) WWW Bounce mushroom's which I'll post when I get pictures of them.

Here are a few pictures of my pairs of Bali Picasso's, Bali Nebula's and a Clownfish USA Magento Picasso.

ny new shots of frags and hows stuff doing

I haven't taken any pictures of my other corals, except some shrooms. I've gotten rid of alot of corals so I can convert half the tank to house clownfish.

How about these?

How about a little colony shot of my Jawbreakers? I'm in the process of getting an Avast top down port, so I can take better pictures. Right now, my pictures stink.

Boy this 40 Breeder build sure has been an adventure.

I sold off all my corals and fish late April. For the next 5+ months, my aquarium only had 1 Bali Nebula clownfish a few hermit crabs and a gang of algae. I hardly ever turned my lights on, didn't do any water changes, just topped off my RO and fed the clown. That was all the involvement I had with the aquarium.

Well, after looking at my box full of algae, I decided to get back into reefing. I scrubbed off majority of the algae on my rocks, purchased and Flame Angelfish and re scaped my rocks.

Here is how the 40 Breeder looked on October 26, 2015.

Fortunately, I didn't have to cycle my tank. It was pretty much a FOWLR for the past 5+ months. So I visited a lfs, purchased a few corals and fish (McCosker's Flasher Wrasse, Green Chromis & Blenny).

I'm sure glad I have something a little nice to look at.

Glad to see!

Photos taken on November 4, 2015.

Ok, so at one point in time, I owned a few Jawbreaker and WWC Bounce mushrooms. When I decided to get back into reefing, I told myself that I would not purchase any expensive corals. Well, that idea went out the window very shortly.

I started hunting on various forums and FB groups for the Jawbreaker and WWC Bounce mushrooms. Well, I was able to purchase these two beauties.

My thirst for Jawbreaker's didn't stop after my first purchase. So, I searched again and found a reefer who was selling a few from his stock. Below is a picture the reefer sent me to choose from.

I decided on a beautiful Jawbreaker that also had a baby attached. This mother Jawbreaker was about 2-2.5". She arrived on 2 Boston Aqua Farms 1.5" frag discs.

Here is a stock photo of her (photo credit to the reefer I purchased it from)

Here is a photo of her when she arrived, fresh from opening the package, she was stretched out while acclimating.

I received another order of Jawbreaker mushroom's. With this order, I was very happy. Most, if not all averaged about 2-2.5" when fully opened. I kept these on the frag rack for a few days, before I decided to glue them onto my rockscape.

I received a beautiful Red Devil type mushroom. When the coral arrived, it had a dark scarlet colored base with these teal colored dots.

Here is a WWC Bounce I purchased from a fellow reefer here on R2R. This one was about the size of a half dollar coin.
