What’s beneath your stand

I was lucky enough to get a great deal on an upgrade to my 90 gallon tank. The new tank is a 6 foot long 220 with a total water volume of approximately 300 gallons. since this tank is so big it’ll need to go in my basement. We are carpeting the basement this week. I’m not too fond of putting the tank on the carpet but I don’t have much choice. my question is this... what’s the surface beneath your tank? Do you have something between your stand and the floor? If so what?

Many people underestimate the strength of their floors. I had a 240 on my first story and was nervous about it, so asked a building inspector about it who also is in construction. He pretty much told me it wasn’t even close to being a concern.

I guess what I’m saying is.. tanks sure do look good next to a tv on your first floor haha

Mine was on pine flooring, next one will be on carpet

Why are you concerned about it being on carpet?

Mine is on carpet. If you haven't yet carpeted, I would designate the space for the tank and either not carpet it, or remove the carpet from that area before setting up the tank. There will be a leak or spill. It's just a fact of reef keeping. I have had to clean up wet carpet more than once. If I had it to do again, I would have removed the carpet about 6" around the stand, used those carpet anchoring strips, and then sealed the entire area before putting water in the tank. Would have just made life easier and prolonged the life of the carpet. Just my .02.
