What’s growing on my clam?

Did you just get it? It looks like someone fragged a coral onto your clam! I can’t tell what kind because the polyps are closed. I could be wrong. Second opinion anyone?

Definitely could be cyphastrea. I can see it. But how it got there is the bigger question.

Question is why is it there?
It is normal for a wild colony to have corals growing on it.

Clams are aquacutured nowadays.

I doubt it unless it has a nasty sting.
Like I said it is normal in the wild for clams to have corals growing on them or boring right into a coral.

You shouldn’t worry about it. But someone put it there. It’s impossible for a coral frag to just affix to a clam shell. I’d pluck it off, put it in medium light and flow and enjoy the win of a free frag of a nice coral. Question continues though: why would someone do that to a clam? ;Bored

It could have just been in close proximity to the coral colony, which stared to encrust on it and grew from there once clipped.
