What’s the best fish trap?

Use this foam! I don't know if I could ever find anything that would come even close to working like this did... :) I will post a video of it working and catching fish and peppermints very soon..

What dollar store did you get the bottle at?
Any Dollar store at all... AKA... "General Dollar Store" I checked Walmart and they don't have anything close. Take your phone with a picture of that jar with you and go to any dollar store..

I can confirm neither dollar tree nor dollar general had these jars in my area. However I was able to find something that worked similarly laying around. I want to say thank you!!! Because I based a design off of yours and successfully caught all my fish including two wrasse using this method. It took the second day for the wrasses and royal gramma to get used to it first.

Here’s my design. I used an old “giant baby bottle piggy bank”, the under the door slide on styrofoam, and an old cheap glass cleaning magnet.

I drilled a hole in the bottle near the bottom so I can use a coral feeding syringe to put food into the hole to keep it inside the jar without it going everywhere. Then glued the styrofoam around the edge like you did and put the rubber band on till it dried. I then drilled a hole in the inside magnet and in the jar and zip tied the magnet to the jar. I glued the holes shut on the magnet so that no metals get into my water. Then I just put it in the tank sideways and used the outside algae scraper to hold it in place!! For the WRASSE the jar needed to be practically laying in the sand for them to explore.

A list of fish I caught within 24 hours:

Day 1 within 30 minutes or less:
A blue tang
2 clownfish
A neon cleaner goby
A flame angel
2 saltwater mollies
A fire goby

Day 2 in about 5 hours (they were hesitant to go in and I left the jar overnight for them to adjust):

A yellow fairy wrasse
A malnurus wrasse
A royal gramma

The only thing I didn’t catch is my mandarin… but he sees no reason to chase after food eventhough he does eat frozen.

But like you said this worked like a CHARM and floats up FAST and not a single fish realized they could have swam to the top as they’re too busy panicking. I caught every fish on the first try after they went in it.
