I have a purple sea whip which has been doing good since I added it a couple months ago. Last week I started having electrical problems in my apartment that cause my power to go off several times a day for about 10 minutes at a time. Anyway I had to go out of town for a few days so I unplugged my lights because I was worried about the on/off of power all the time would mess them up. I left the blinds open ( not in the same room but the room next to the tank. Open concept so no walls). I was gone for 3 nights so lights were off for four days. Now all the polyps are closed and not extending at all. I have been home for two days and light schedule is back to normal. Will it take a couple of days for the coral to recover or was four days without light just too much for my sea fan? I would hate to loose my one and only coral. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Mine used to close up for a few days then open up for a few days. Seemed like it was on and off. I don’t know if that’s normal but that’s what mine did.

Should b fine. Keep an eye out for algae growing on its flesh...thats when u know its in trouble....

Polyps have started to open back up but the coral looks like it’s shedding a layer of skin. Is that normal. I’m thinking I read somewhere that they shed but I could be wrong. Lol

They do shed...but generally in response to algae build up. Might need a bit more flow. You can help it along by blowing it off with a baster.

I just moved it up a little higher in the tank and cleaned my power head. It’s getting really good flow now. Thanks for the info
