Hi everyone.
i noticed my clownfish’ tail is ‘missing’ at the bottom This morning.
Anyone know what’s wrong with him? He’s about 3 years old. And personality hasn’t changed, eating well, his overall colour hasn’t changed and continues to be a deep orange/white. Is he just growing?; as I’ve noticed he’s got longer recently too. Anyone help please?

thanks
Emma xx

If it's not aggression then in my opinion I would suggest it's bacterial (only been keeping marines a short time but had years in tropical so my comments are based on that experience). I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will soon put me right!

Whilst poor water quality is a common cause of fin-rot other issues could be low water temperatures. You mention he's getting bigger recently - are you feeding outdated food or overfeeding him? This can cause stress that leads to fin rot. Is your PH and temperature appropriate? You'd want to also get a correct nitrate reading - is the kit 'in date'?

Whilst highlighting the potential cause I would be separating him to my 'hospital tank' and treating him with medication - if I didn't have a hospital tank I would go to my LFS and find out what I can do bearing in mind he is with corals. Alternatively, hope someone else on this forum is more informed than me!

Water changes, cleaning gravel, good feeding regime and general good husbandry is the key to righting fin-rot problems.

If someone else sees this differently then I'll be better educated too.
