I just got this new hammer coral and it’s been fine for the past 2 weeks but today there’s white discolouration and part of it is withdrawn. My water parameters are fine no ammonia or nitrite and a little nitrate. Salinity is 1.025-6 and the light has been steady 8 hours a day. My baby torch coral is thriving too. It just seems to be the hammer that’s struggling

Have you tried to move it to lower light?

What is your other parameters mag, alk, cal, phos?

i havent moved it to lower light because I figured if it was a lighting issue it wouldnt be in one small spot. My phosphate is 0 but i dont have a test kit for the other elements

If lighting is not an issue, I would suggest raising your phosphates up a little bit from 0. It could be that the hammer coral is starving for nutrients in the water column, because the phosphates are too low and your tank is too clean. I would try feeding your corals with some coral food or feed a little bit more when feeding your fish also to raise your phosphates. Hard to know though without knowing some of your other parameters like Ca, Alk, Mg and Nitrates if there is an imbalance. Is it getting enough flow? Another thought, have you checked for any pests/bugs/parasites on the coral.
IME, if my parameters are not stable, I start seeing issue with my corals.

My honest opinion is that tank looks way too clean, I know that's surprising but a tank needs to be a little dirty to let them corals grow.
