Hey everyone, I have been noticing that my nems mouth has been open a lot and sometimes a group of its tentacles are shrunken down? Thoughts?

Well, it looks fairly bleached for one, and I see a PVC piece, looks like you tried to contain in sand in a shallow sand bed tank?
How long has tank been running, and how long have you had nem?

Looks extremely bleached as others have asked how long have you had this nem and what are you feeding it

The tank has been running for a bout a year and 3 months.
I have had the nem for about a week and a half.

My sand bed is about 2-3 inches.

It’s only in the pvc because it was just float around. As of now it is attached to the pvc.

Well, mysis squirted towards it a couple times a week would help regain color and health.
It's still pretty new to tank, and I'm wondering what light it's under and what it was under before.
Being bleached they don't deal w/ heavy light well.

Also being contained it may not be able to move to where it really wants, it would probably want to be near or even under a ledge right now to screen from lighting some.

Right now it is currently under a 32'' SBreeflights timer fixture ( Whites: 10%, Blues: 50%)
Before, it was under plain white led in a fish holding system

I have been feeding it some of my homemade fish food which consists of : salmon, squid, octopus, mussles, And some other seafood from a seafood medley bag.

I will try and move it under a ledge tomorrow.

Well, be super careful to not harm foot if you move it.

Those foods sound good for fish, and if it picks up some that is fine, but smaller easy to digest foods like mysis would be better, and only a couple times a week, that should help bring color up, and usually they will handle light a little better after they regain color.

If it came from weaker lighting it helps to acclimate them to stronger light.
You could even screen above it to help w/ that and see how it responds.

Ok, I will get some mysis this weekend.
I forgot to mention that the nem is really sticky to the touch, which i know is a good sign, but it will grab food and kinda close up then open back up like nothing happened with the food still on its tentacles.

It's still pretty new to tank and acclimating on top of being bleached.

You are not limited to mysis, that's just MY usual go to, but small filter foods or easy to digest take less energy.

Also in your mix of seafood I would make sure no silversides, those have been very problematic for many nems keepers, just FYI in case.

I've always just kept it simple w/ mysis, and I know that works.
I don't know reefroids well enough to really comment, never used it.

Well, I wish I could say I have good news but, sadly I don’t. Over the past 2 days my nem has started to take a turn for the worse. After I pulled him out of the pvc fitting I noticed a tear in the nems foot, which, I know is a bad sign. So, unless it can make a 180 degree turn, I’ll probably have to remove it in the next couple of days. So that being said I’m probably going to take a break from nems for a while. :(Thank you all for your help :)
