What’s wrong with my zoa?

Hey guys so I’m not sure why this zoa isn’t fully opening. I have many other zoas that are thriving but this one recently hasn’t been opening fully. There are some marks on it that look a little suspicious that I tried to get good pictures of but it is obviously hard. Let me know what you guys think.

Have any Shrimp? What types of fish? Lastly, do you dip for pest?

I have a cleaner shrimp and a coral banded that never shows itself. I have many types of fish such as tangs, wrasses, and Anthias. I have not dipped it yet should I start to dip now?

I just lost a 2 year old colony to nudi branchs. Could have saved them if I had started with a pest dip instead of a cleaner. If you have zoas randomly close out of no where start a dip off in coral RX or any pesticide dip safe for zoas. If you dont have anything flake off, give a day of rest and the next day after the rest dip it in some kinda cleaner or antibacterial dip. I've brought zoas back from crashing on me with revive before so I recomened that. Usually if it's not pests and some kind of infection from being dragged, stung etc. I'll use revive every other day and place them on a small frag rack elevated in direct flow. That seems to help keep that brown slime/film off them. Peroxide also helps if you dont have anything else. It wont kill alot of pests but may irritate them into letting go while swishing the coral around.

No it’s just a single polyp. My Parameters are fine. And all my other coral are doing great so that’s why I’m thinking a pest got to it or it’s Bacterial. I’ll take a look at it tomorrow and if it’s still not looking better after I did the first dip should I move on to a bacterial dip?

If you did the pest dip and nothing came off in the first round I'd move to meds. Usually I'll give a day or 2 of rest in mod flow to help blow any thing off it. My most common dips I use for zoas are revive and peroxide. But both I wouldn't say are med dips. More of a cleaner you know? Peroxide will kill algea on it and revive they say is a cleaner for coral and freshly fragged corals but I've had that work for me to. Single handedly brought back some zoas for me. Zoas also do great with peroxide to in small doses. They have a chart on how much to add but I tend to eye ball it (witch I know doesnt help you) but those 2 work well. I know people also use iodine as well and hear good things with that. Never attempted it though. Revive is a good one to have on hand, everyone has peroxide, and I'm sure you can look up antibacterial dips for them to. Cant think of any name brands cause all I use and have had to use is coral RX and revive. But biggest thing is to make sure you give them a rest period imbetween dips. A day minimum. If your not worried they are perishing rapidly give it maybe 2 or 3 days.

PSA, make sure you use tank water to dip them. I know it sounds simple but my friend recently dipped a whole bunch of sps in fresh RO water with revive and just didnt click with him. All but one frag died. Not saying you will but brain farts happen like in his case hah.

Update he’s looking worse after I’ve been doing the dips with the coral RX. Not the best picture but I’m stumped on what to do.

How many RX dips have you done? Did anything come off it? If nothing came off it. You should move to medical treatment such as revive or if it has zoa pox you can do furan 2 dips. I cant tell with pictures so you may need to read up on it and determine your self.

unfortunately i'm going to have to say its melted away. probably not going to be able to save this one. welcome to reefing where zoas melt for no reason.

I've been there man. You can only do what you can do man. I couldn't tell you how many zoas I've had and heard that just melt.

I can still see a polyp it looks a little better from the last pic. I have done 3 dips of the revive and might have seen some stuff come off it but it’s hard to tell. It’s not completely dead yet but not looking hot. It’s a master krak so if this guy goes I’m gonna be upset.
