So the lid to my vertex rx6 duo calcium reactor blew off with the pressure of the CO2! It didn't break into pieces or chipped anywhere. It just popped out. I notice it was sealed with some kind of silicone, can I use regular silicone to try and glue it back on? I know the reactor body is made of Acrylic, but not sure about the lid (I think it's just plastic), so should I use some kind of glue for acrylic? Thanks for any advice in advance!

Yikes.....call Vertex.

Hopefully you're just mistaken and that wasn't silicone holding it together....but if it was, you've got a legitimate beef with them vs a repair job. If you were simply mistaken they should be able to give you the best guidance to get it repaired, maybe let you know what kind of adhesive/cement would be best.

Personally, have you considered swapping the CO2-based system for a two-part or kalkwasser based system using peristaltic pumps? The automated pumps (and DIY reagents) are so cheap these days and seem to work well. Replacing a whole pump head and motor on one of these is very inexpensive too ($10-$20), should one find oneself in that predicament down the road.

Good luck either way!!

The thing is that I got this reactor from a friend of mine who took down his system, so it is not under any warrantee or anything. I was putting a new regulator and solenoid valve was open all the way and I was daydreaming and didn't think about checking it before I plugged it all in. So the CO2 pressure was higher and just blew the lid out.

So I got off the phone with vertex and they recommended using any acrylic glue, if I can't find that they said crazy glue or gorilla glue will do a great job. Im gonna try my luck and if it doesn't work I guess I'll consider my options. Thanks for the advice!
