Just wanted to share the series of events of what has been happening.

I had a few people that were coming over this past Saturday so I thought I would clean the frag tank Friday. Unplugged all of powerheads to give them a vinegar bath, cleaned the glass, etc. When I went to plug the powerheads back in, I could not get the oldest Sicce 1600 to work. Not a big deal since I have had it for about 5 or 6 years. Kinda viewed it as the cost of unplugging a powerhead that has been running for a long time.

After everybody left I walked past the sump and saw a spot of water on the floor. Oddly enough I stood over the water spot for a least 15 minutes talking and didn't notice it. I started taking the return pump apart and couldn't get the impeller to budge. Whoever wrote that it could be removed by hand has a real good since of humor. So I just put everything back together oiled the gaskets, etc.

That did absolutely nothing to fix the problem. Found out that most likely the seal went bad, but couldn't find the hammerhead hybrid model on the Reeflo website. I then sent an email to Reeflo because I didn't want to accidentally order the wrong seal.

Sunday rolls around and I go to feed the fish. I hear a high pitch sound coming from the fish tank and then notice there is hardly any current in the fish tank. The maxspect powerhead is not working. I take that apart, clean everything up, put back in tank and same thing.

So now its Monday. I get an email back from Reeflo. They told me the pump was still under warranty and they would send me a replacement seal at no cost. I wasn't asking for a replacement and I didn't tell them how old the pump was. How great of a company is that? I was blown away.

I remember seeing a post that some of the motors were going bad in the maxspact so I called CoralVue to ask about it. They told me that was correct, but I needed to open a ticket. Later that day, I send all of the pictures to them to show it is not the impeller or cage that is broken. Monday night they agreed with me and are sending me a new motor. Whoop Whoop

Parts are coming in today and tomorrow. Also the Avast Kalk stirrer (put it together yourself model) should be getting here tomorrow.

This weekend will be replacing the seal on the Reeflo, the motor on the maxspect powerhead, getting the kalk stirrer put together and setup. Building a stand for the kalk stirrer. Also wife and kids will be out of town. Looking forward to getting all of this going. Can't wait.

Wow Randy. That is crazy. I am glad everything worked out in the end. You had me scared for a moment.
Good story. You had me hooked. First there was fear, then there was relief, and finally you left with a cliffhanger. What will happen this weekend? Will everything show? Will it all work? We will have to wait and see... :)

Yea, hopefully Sunday evening all will be complete with no problems. The only thing that I am really concerned about at the moment is the propeller on the Reeflo. Hope it doesn't break while trying to get removed.

Got the powerhead put back together between last night and this morning. It took a lot more time than I thought it would.

Good to hear things are going well Randy.
Reeflo is a great company.
If you need help with the seals let me know.
Their directions on the website are pretty good though.

Thanks Tyler

The seals turned out to be easier than I thought it would. Just got finished with everything. Nothing appears to be leaking at the moment.

The Kalk stirrer was as easy as putting a model car together when I was a kid.

Oh one other thing. Reeflo actually sent me 2 seals so when this one goes bad I have a backup.

You sound much luckier than most of us. Generally when I unplug a powerhead I drop it into a container of fresh water and plug it back in immediately so it doesn't have a chance to seize up. Mine always seem to fail on the tank rather than during cleaning.

Actually this is the best turnout that I ever had. One time I had a skimmer pump short out and it killed everything in the tank. It left a black burn mark across the top of the rim. That was a good tip about plugging the power head in freshwater. Will try that next tume
