Hey everyone,

I'm new to the saltwater world, and have a 6ft fishonly setup that's coming along nicely.

But it's starting to get some of those brown blotches on the live and fake rock in the tank. And it's very difficult to scrap off.

What is it? And do I need to worry about it? I'm assuming its light related as it's more concentrated towards the top of the rock.

As assistance appreciated.

It's part of having a new tank... there's a reason they call this stage "the uglies". Just ride it out.
Unfortunately, "pretty" aquarium decorations don't stay that way for long in a saltwater tank.
I had a feeling someone was going to say new tank ugly stage. But no worries I'll ride it out and let nature take care of it. As long as it's normal and nothing to worry about.

Would there be any products that can help get rid of it? I've heard from the BRSTV 52 Weeks of Reefing they talk about products like Vibrant. but what else have you guys found to be helpful? API Algaefix? or anything else?

Would like to get on top of it or slow it down before it takes over everything if that's possible.

Like above said, fish only with live rock FOWLR...no light depending corals , kill the lights for a few days black out that will curb any photosynthetic algae.
