The slug was crawling over the crab.. when I went to scoop the slug up to get a picture is when I noticed the crab moved one arm. Now, this is what gets me; I know the he had to be sitting in that same spot for at least two weeks since I bought that piece of rock because I liked the stuff that was growing there (got knocked off his back when I was trying to scoop him up) and the hump that was there (no more since he gone from that spot).

When I scooped him up, he was hanging on for dear life; never tried to pinch me (noticed no big pinchers); so, when said "with caution", what kind?

I myself would not trust both in my reef. Stuff like that usually comes back to bite you in the butt unless you know the exact sp.

crabs cant be trusted. even hermits. They are predators. I had hermits go rogue and eat a couple fish. So if you have only big fish its probably not a big deal, but....use caution.
Nudis too. without the exact species you dont know what they eat and more importantly WILL eat if they get hungry.
Sadly its likely they are benign and would starve in a home tank. The big beautiful Nudi I had, did exactly that.

Opinion on, if the crab would be good with the seahorses/pipefish?
no. IMO. How big are the fish. You can get on the google and try to find his species.

I just got 2 small dragon faces, and euthanized my tiny acro crab. kinda a bummer.

I'm going to place him in a floating hatchery that I have until I can take him back up to the story I got the live rock that he hitched on..

I think you guys nailed it with the ID
I wouldn't totally trust either of them in a reef. I really don't trust any crabs in a reef. I have had too many bad experiences. :)

I also have a decorator that came in as a hitchhiker. He's been a model citizen, with us over a year now without a problem. Check out a few of the YouTube videos on decorators & you may just end up keeping him. They truly are amazing creatures & fun to watch. They will stick most anything they find on their bodies, including jewelry, using a glue like substance they make with their mouth. Why not give it a shot, if it doesn't workout you won't have a problem find him a new home.
