Hello all,

Any idea what is going on with my Bellus?

He is not rubbing in any rocks, eating like a pig, but just has these spots. There is no discoloration around the spots like ich spots.

Thank you!

the spots on the tail make me think sand...the one on the dorsal fin looks different

I have the same issue with a unicorn tang but to a lesser degree. It's been like that for about a week now. At first I thought it was ick but now I don't think so. The fish is still eating well and acting normal

It's hard to tell which of the spots are on the glass and which are on the fish. These angels are prone to Lymphocystis and tend to look ugly while it's there. Lymph is rarely fatal and can be considered similar to a cold soar in humans. Click the link for more detailed info, but I'll give you some right now. If it's lymph it wont fall off and come back after a few days like ick would. It will continue to get a little bigger and resemble teeny tiny cauliflower instead. Vitamins, good quality foods, super clean water and low stress are all ways to help him get rid of the "uglies" and be pretty again.

^^ Agree, most likely Lympho. But it's hard to see what's on the fish vs. what's on the glass.

thanks all....Lympho is what I was thinking from the fish diseases post, but have never seen it in person to know....I do feed high quality foods, and use AquaForest Fish V and Garlic on their food. I will keep ya posted

They were in QT for awhile and I did not see these spots, but they started showing up when I put in the DT....maybe the stress of all the new house mates got them to pop up

It can happen. When I get these in the store they almost always break out with them not long after receiving them. It makes them look ugly and people don't want to buy them, so we've stopped ordering them as often. Thems the breaks.

I can't remember the last butterflyfish I ran thru QT that didn't develop Lympho.

I get odd vibes
Looking at that angel like that reminds me of both my swallowtails hanging by the powerheads facing the substrate sometimes. Then above power heads. Did that bellus change its personality and start to lone about in a corner recently? I noticed the other bellus in your photo....is that one acting "normal"?

Turned out to be velvet. Lost 5 fish in a week fron not being able to catch them. My hospital tank has 3 fish in it and will make more HT for the rest of the fish. Will run fallow for 4months.

I hope yours does not have velvet. As it gets ugly very quick.

In anticnics you can see the scales look dofferent sugary and the fins start to deteriorate once velvet takes hold.

Not my intent to worry you.
But be cautious.

Even with some small white spots they are cool fish =)
