What am I doing wrong

I think your dry rock could be the culprit 50 lbs could take quite a long while to fully cure

Definitely not intended to make anyone mad but I just don't get it and maybe I will always remain a rookie. When I setup my 55 gal tank and 40 gal tide pool tank, all I did was purchased live sand for a 3" base, purchased Reef crystal salt and mixed it myself with a good well water source, add live cultured rock and filter. After a week, the tank had cycled and I checked the salinity and Ph which were awesome, then I was able to add two fish to start and polyps. To this day, everything is thriving with no problems at all. "Vodka".? I heard about this method but I only use Vodka to add to my Orange juice as a mixer to make a pretty good screw driver.

I have two sets of 200 micron filter socks. I remove my dirty ones and immediately put in my clean ones. I take a garden hose, outside, and clean them out. I rinse them out with a RODI water and that is it.

I have cleaned the current set dozens of times. Good filter socks last a long time.

With your size of tank, I would suggest you get an RODI system and mix your own salt water. The RODI system will pay for itself in a short time.
