What am i doing wrong???

Show me the photos please. What isn’t working ?
 
I think you should post some pictures and ask for a critique.

There is nothing wrong with your gear, but if you are new to photography, I recommend watching some Youtube tutorials on the subject.
 
I will work on pulling the photos off the cam, but it will not zoom in on the coral. I can't get the camera to focus unless I'm like 3+ feet from the tank. I have tried some videos but haven't found any good ones.

You need a lens that has "Macro" abilities. This will allow you to focus at a closer distance. I have the same issue but use my zoom lens to get a closer pic at the minimum distance it will focus.

EDIT: Sorry I meant a zoom lens with macro
