I have a red head solon wrasse, that was doing fine when I first got him. He has been in quaritine since I got him. I noticed a yellow fin going after him in my one quartine. So I moved him to another, thinking he would do better. But have a male pyle's fairy that may be picking on him now. He tends to hover and top of tank, or one down and hide. He is eating normally it seems. None of his fins look damaged, but side of his body does.

In the photos, he body seems to be getting worse. Opposite eye to photo is cloudy. And just noticed tonight a spot on him other eye, seen in photos.

Is this bullying or something else?

Well it could be either, I think I would do a FW dip to check for flukes. I think I see a few spots down his side, are there any raised spots? The cloudy eye could be flukes or injury.

Is he currently in copper? I would FW dip check for flukes. If no flukes and no copper I would start ramping up copper just in case. Do you have any Maracyn (erythromycin)? It is extremely effective for eye infections. I would also recommend finding a peaceful place for him to QT, you could divide that tank with eggcrate if needed. If you find flukes treat with Prazi twice 5-7 days apart, you also add 1 Tablespoon of Pure USP Epsom salts per 5G to help with swelling in that eye.

My money is on flukes. Try a freshwater dip in a dark bucket. Look for “sesame seeds” in the bottom afterward. If you see any, treat with general cure twice 5-7 days apart.

Match the temp well for the bath.

Ok, I'll start off with FW dip. If it is flukes, I'll get meds. And treat the tank. Can someone send me a link for best meds to get please.

Am I going to assume tank treatment will be needed for other QT tank as he was also in another tank with other fish?

Yes treat all tanks with either Prazipro or general cure. You need 2 doses 5-7 days apart with a 25% WC just before the second dose.

I would treat in QT with either General Cure or Prazi and yes both tanks.

Thanks everyone for your fast responses. Hoping to resolve this, and prevent spread if that's what it is. Thank god for setting up quarintine systems

Well Done.....

It was flukes. So I gave him a FW dip. And after 5 min, put him back into QT1(with egg crate divider so just him now). Counted 12 visible flukes. Surprising considering how small he is.

Next course of action?

So in Canada were *******, and i cant get quick access to prazipro or general cure. Only thing I can get is Ich X. So I grabbed some of that.
- so i treat both QT tanks with that I guess?
- how long do I treat with Ich X? As it requires 1/3 water change everytime i apply, every 24hrs.
- Do i re dip him later?

I ordered Prozipro and General Cure of Amazon, let's see if it gets flagged or gets delivered. But for now I'm stuck with Ich X. I'm hoping it will work.

Once again GREAT HELP guys, thank you so much. And of course I have to say, go check out my epic inwall build. I think you guys would like it. Cheers.

If the Ich X doesn’t cut it and if you cannot get Prazi, General Cure, or Fenbendazole you might want to consider 5 days of hypo. Hypo can be tough and time consuming raising the salinity back up but it is an option if all else fails.

I don't know if ich x contains enough ingredients to do the trick.

If your amazon order doesn't arrive, then I would recommend Hypo. Formalin would work too, but I don't know if you can get that either.

I'll look into formalin. I'm not sure about that one. Never looked into it. Hopefully my amazon order shows, said 4-5 days. The wrasse is looks to be doing alright back in QT.

So how long do i treat for? His colour should start coming back?

And for my QT2, which has no signs, as far as I can see. How long do I treat it for?

If you are able to obtain prazipro or GC it's two single doses 5-7 days apart with a 25% water change in between doses.

The second QT needs the exact same treatment as the first one.

So lost the Red Head Solon today. Pretty ******. I FW dipped every fish that is currently in my two QT tanks. I only got 3 flukes off total of 13 fish. One yellow fin wrasse didnt look to great when i put him back into QT. I guess we will see, about him. No flukes came off of him.

Friend is crossing the falls for me, hope to have prazipro by Friday. Until then I guess 30% water change every day and medicating ich x.

Question-
Now that i FW dipped each fish. Am i good not to do any more FW dips and get the prazipro into the tanks asap?

The FW dip will buy you some time but how much? Nobody knows it depends on the parasitic load left on the fish more importantly in the gills.
