What is its texture like? Stony, slimy, filmy? Does it react to touch in any way (poke it with a stick, not your finger)? How many places do you have it in your tank and does it grow quickly?

From just that one pic, if it's not hard/calcified to the touch, I would guess some kind of red macroalgae. I had something very similar spontaneously appear in my tank. Didn't want to touch it, though it might even be a baby chalice coral until my tang ate half of it.

Hard to tell from that photo but if you want it to live you might consider moving the shroom......

Yeah but shrooms are like rabbits, in a short time he will have many and likely will smother or sting whatever it is....

If the texture is spongy, maybe it's a sponge.

On the higher resolution pic, it looks like it's encrusting, and if it were hard to the touch, maybe some kind of monti.
