Yesterday I posted about my tank cycling really fast and was helped a ton but was suggested that if I'm unsure how well my tank is cycling I could use a known amount of ammonia to test it. My question is how do I know which ammonia I can use is safe for my tank and how much should I dose my tank? I've been cycling with live rock and sand and throwing fish flakes in daily to make ammonia but I want to be sure how well it's cycling.
Thanks

The safest bet is to get Dr Tims ammonia chloride and dose it per the instructions.

If you want to use household ammonia you need to make sure it is pure ammonia and doesn't have coloring or soap added. It can be a challenge to find if you don't have an ace hardware. Then you will need to find the concentration of the ammonia you purchased and calculate how much you need to add.

How would I calculate that?

Ace Hardware brand ammonia is pure ammonia and is safe. When I cycled my 40 gallon tank, adding 10 drops raise the ammonia level by 2ppm.
