What are best corals for bare bottom tank?

What are some of the best corals to place on a bare bottom tank? Something that will grow nice, flat and colorful?

Unless it is a softie tank, you will regret mushrooms. They will likely decide to relocate to, well anywhere and everywhere.

At least with hard corals and planned shading barriers, you can hopefully keep the bottom cover on the bottom.

Here is my 120. I agree with the shroom comment. Wish I never put the 3 that came on a live rock in my tank.
They release and land on sps and sting or kill them. They also, my type anyway, multiply like rabbits.
Last pic is is coral warfare so be carefull with placement.

For my vote, Cyphastrea. They like and even prefer low light. They keep good colour in low light. Finally they make good neighbours (to other cyphastrea). When they grow together at the margins, you often see them doing a sumo match with little chemical warfare. It is a much more gentle battle than the scorched earth approach that leads to the chance of algae covered skeleton until the victor has encrusted his prize.

I am also partial to Stylocoeniella. They look like hairy montis, spread well, and seem to be less aggressive to their own kind. Though I am not certain on the aggressive part yet. Mine seem to get along, but they have never been too constrained for space.

These Ricordia have been well behaved. Discosoma have not. Ricordia will slowly move over time, occasionally. I’ve had a Disco shroom detach and cause havoc once. They are not allowed in the tank anymore!
