My clown fish everyday just will go to the top of the corner they like and just bite the water, it sounds like smacking water. Does anyone know why they are doing this. They stop towards later at night and if you approach the rank they will stop.

What's in or above that corner?

Clowns being clowns. My return nozzle hosted my clowns for a year and a half before they moved into my duncan. No ill affect to the nozzle, it didn’t seem to mind hosting the clowns.
Ya I know for fact that they hosted this corner, just found kinda weird and sometimes annoying lol. I would be eating dinner all I hear is them smacking the water. Is it worth at some point to get anemone, I know I will be upgrading as my uncle is giving me 75 gallon with sump for free later this year. Might just wait till I upgrade.

I’ve never had an anemone, except RFAs, it’s my understanding it can be hit or miss if they let the anemone host them. I recently read in a thread it took 3 years for the clowns to move into that person’s anemone.

Mine took over 2 years and a few hundred spent on nems. Along with every internet trick you can find. In the end they just became extremely territorial.

Again I’m not the anemone guy, far from it but I do read a lot. It seems the BTAs are the most popular right now but they don’t naturally host clowns in the wild like others do, that could be part of it as well as most of our clowns now are captive bread and just don’t know what they are supposed to do.

It’ll depend on clown species. My clown is hosted by my torch and won’t touch my bta. She’ll head butt it now and again but that’s all. I hear maroons and tomatoes will accept all types of nems right away.

I was born in Grand Rapids and my parents were from Cadillac. Did some small mouth bass fishing Lake St. Claire a few years back.
My parents currently live in Thompsonville about half hour north of Cadillac. Beautiful area up there.
