What are peoples RODI storage solutions?

I want to set up a storage tank so I store water and not have to make more whenever I need it.

What are people storing RODI water in, maybe 50 gallons or more? Looking for something reasonably cheap and sturdy.

A common solution to "reasonably cheap and sturdy" is Brute commercial 44 gallon trash cans -- more than one if needed. (I just use a single 32 gallon Brute for a 40 gallon tank)

No worries I appreciate you taking the time to anwser! I have a big trash can for mixing saltwater. My ideal is a large food safe container I could drill a hose bib into and the feed water directly into some of my freshwater tanks or into the trashcan to mix salt. And I've seen some stuff when I have googled that is upwards of 200 dollars so hopefully there is a cheaper brand I am not aware of.

How many total gallons of usable rodi would you want available? I use a 25qt sealed Tupperware with a hole drilled. Holds about 6 gallons. Wish I went with a deeper container, but really any foodsafe container at any size is sufficient. Just don't want any leeching. Rodi water wants to mess around with molecules

For RODI I just store it in 5-gallon jugs.

No worries I appreciate you taking the time to anwser! I have a big trash can for mixing saltwater. My ideal is a large food safe container I could drill a hose bib into and the feed water directly into some of my freshwater tanks or into the trashcan to mix salt. And I've seen some stuff when I have googled that is upwards of 200 dollars so hopefully there is a cheaper brand I am not aware of.

One option for fairly large storage could be 55 gallon food grade plastic barrels - farmers/hobby farmers are often selling these fairly cheap on Craigslist as they get animal feed delivered in them and wind up with a bunch lying about, but even new they’re not particularly expensive.

I might be mistaken but I believe you should not use rodi for a freshwater tank. Ro yes but not deionized. Same as you shouldn't drink rodi but ro is fine to drink.

You are mistaken as for some South American fish are bred in Rodi cut back in with about a third of carbon filtered tap water to lower the conductivity of the water and keep osmotic pressure from imploding the eggs before they hatch . The water in the Amazon in some lakes and tributaries can get very acidic with a ph of under 6.5 ph due to the dried up dead vegetation , Moss, etc. especially during the dry season . When the rainy season comes it raises ph . Discus that we get in the wild are a perfect example of why we use Aion and cation resins to raise and breed in captivity. RODI water works just as well .

Yup, you get it. I have some apistogramma species I'd like to breed and in my current living situation it's not feasible to produce large amounts of RODI. I'm sure corydoras wouldn't mind a bit too considering how much rain is a trigger for many species.

I use purely RODI for my Asian discus which I remineralise to kh 2 gh2 & pH 6.4.
Stendkers discus are raised in hard water & some successfully use hard tap water but I acclimated mine to the same parameters as my Asian.my tap is 40ppm nitrates.RODI gives you a clean slate on which to tweak your conditions.in my experience I've seen many discus tanks survive but not thrive on tap.i wanted big old 7-8inch baby's so I will only use RODI.its something the freshwater hobby is slowly catching onto.

44g brute and float valve. Get it up off of the floor and put a drain in the bottom with a 3/4 or 1 inch bulkhead with a ball valve.

Nice example of a beautiful Discus . Is that derived from a scribbled, snakeskin , or checkered ? It’s been a few years since I used to breed them and just like the names for corals change that was the same with these majestic beauties.

I have a 275g tote in the garage.
I used to do 55g drums.
Between my 3 systems I do 10% a month so 20g's every month.
On my freshwater planted I do 5g's a week.
So 40gs a month plus 4g's a day evaporation, 160g's fresh a month, makes the 275 a plus.
