Hi reef2reef community,I just recently started out in the hobby and I would love some helpful pointers from experienced aquarists. What are the best begginer corals, do I need to feed them.

Hello, I am in no way an experiences reefer but I will offer my experience. Tank is a few months old.

I would say it depends on what your specs are. For me my hammer, Duncan, and monti cap all grow like crazy. But my zoas, plays, and toadstool have not grown at all and have little poly extension. I attribute this to high light and flow but I think it really depend on what your system is ideal for.

Thanks,
My tank is a 25 gallon nano cube but with custom filtration and I have a Protien skimmer running in the system.

Softies (mushrooms, zoas, leathers) are all typically the easiest

I'd then say LPS (Acans, hammer, frogspawn, brains) are moderately easier.

And than SPS (Acros, birdnest, Validia) etc begin to require more husbandry and stable water parems.

However there are SPS that are easy to keep and some people have difficulty with some softies.

But general rule of thumb i would say softies> LPS> SPS

this is a loaded question!
it depends on the "newbe" some people I talk to I tell them to try bulletproof corals like shrooms, toadstools, sps like pavona.... some people after talking to them I recoment acros,dendros.....

I started with these: Kenya tree medium-high light and likes flow then Rics and Shrooms low-medium light and not much flow, then a Hammer medium-high light and not much flow too. I don't feed and are all doing well. I use Instant Ocean reef salt. Good luck

+1 on this. That is the general rule but I would say figure out your circulation in gallons per hour (GPH) and lighting intensity in PAR. Get corals that are rated for your system in that way
