What are the effect of dropping DKH?

I see discussions about the effects of bringing DKH up to fast or to high but nothing about lowering it.
Let’s say your tank is at 11 DKH, 420 CA, and 1350 MG and you switch salts to one that mixes up at 8 DKH, 420 CA, and 1350 MG and you do for argument sake a 20% water change. What effect would this cause to your corals. Let’s say we are talking about 3 different tanks.
Tank 1 all SPS
Tank 2 all LPS
Tank 3 Mixed reef.

What’s your thoughts?

Growth rates will likely slow in all 3 systems. The key is not how much you lower but how fast, SPS are more finicky to rapid changes.

Giving you a bump since I am new to SPS and interested. I am currently at 9.1 dKH, but my nutrients are very low with PO4 and NO3 measuring 0 on hobbyist tests.

Where are your levels for those two parameters?

I use Salifert for Ca, Mg, and NO3, Hanna Checkers for PO4, and ALK
Today’s tests are as follows:
Temp 78 Reefkeeper
Salinity 1.0245 Refractometer
Ca 410 ppm
Alk 10 dkh
Mg 1400 ppm
NO3 0 ppm
PO4 0.00 ppm

All 6 AI LED’s on from 8am to 8pm
All blues at 75% max 1 hour ramp
Others at 8% max 1 hour ramp from 10am to 6pm
4 ATI Blue + 80 watt T5’s all on at 10am to 7pm

Had a bad experience switching salts and lost a bit of coral as well. Usually kept alk at 10ish and switched to a salt that averaged 8. I believe the alk was lowered to fast but its anecdotal.
