Hey guys with the new classification of acan corals I would like to know what are the largest ones ?

I am looking for the big puffy verity. can you show me yours and tell the scientific name as well as the street name.

thanks guys pretty new to acans and just want to get it right!

Well, with new classification, Acanthastrea lordhowensis is now Micromussa lordhowensis. And any "Acan" like the ones I believe you're talking about are all that same species. Acanthastrea maxima still exists and they are fairly large and fleshy but will be hard to come by. Do you have a reference picture of what you're looking for specifically? (:

yeah I heard that acan lords are now mirco lords and that the ery thought that spurred this thread. no I dont have a pic I just see video and pic of some ppl tanks and there acan are all nice and big and I can to myself I want those...haha I know each tank and coral is different just trying to get a better understanding here.

i'll see if I can find some examples

like this video some are bigger than others. I am guessing there the mirco lords?

and this video see how big and puffy there are. love it! does it have to do with flow, lighting and feeding ? or are there serten type that do that better?

Yep those are Micromussa lordhowensis, and that can vary not just from system to system but colony to colony. It will depend on how much flow and what type of flow, lighting type and intensity, water chemistry, food availability etc. Not really a "type" of M. lordhowensis that will do it better, just depends on the above.

So can you school me in best acan placement?
Lets talk lighting, flow and how often to feed.
I had a frag that was doing great until it got knocked over my something Andi did not see for a week or so...

AcannMaxima, check Pacific East Aquaculture, purchased one from them.

This acan maxima is violet, lt green, yellow, hard to show in pic. The acans I have receive good flow, they’re fed reefroids weekly, pellet food every now and then. Tank gets fed Red Sea A +B aminos and KZ FWS. I’ve removed them from rocks, glued them on small lifted rocks, they put up with being moved and glued without any problems. They’re nice and puffy.

This is deflate mode. They were removed and glued to discs that are on top of small pieces of rock for flow. When inflated they are really puffy except for the small one in the front which isn’t huge and has been picky since it was a one head.

When I keep 30 different acans and Scolys low flow and reef roids made into a paste really made them happy and fluffy. Some looked bad they were rescued from dying in my buddies tank.

A few of my favs
T5s actinic, 2 b+, c+
About 6” off bottom of 21” tall DT
On end of tank 2 MP10s 90% reefcrest so they get pretty good flow. Babies popping out everywhere + new ones on the rack
