So, at first I thought these things were just part of the rock... Now it looks like they are taking OVER. They just started on the underside of some LR. Next thing I knew they had spread to other pieces of LR & on the backside of the tank.

Sorry the pictures are so bad; iPhones aren't the best for taking tank pics!

They don't really move, but they almost look like they're some kind of pest coral. They are rapidly multiplying & growing at an alarming rate! What are these things? Are they bad? How do I get rid of them?

I'm trying to find pictures on Google images to match them up to since the pictures are so crappy... I've tried multiple times to get good pictures but it just doesn't work!

+++++++EDIT+++++++

Okay, I was able to get more pictures... These are better.

I assume they are Sycon sponges, they are a good thing, but will slowly decline after your tank is up for a while. Look them up to confirm.

Yes, they're a sponge. Beneficial in aquariums, but as Kodiak mentioned tend to be eaten by fish or decline in population with lack of food source over time. I've had them survive indefinitely in sumps/refugiums/etc.

Oh, awesome! I will look them up just to be sure they are the right thing, since my pictures still aren't too clear.

Thanks, everyone!

Just so I understand because I have what I see in your pick in my tank as well. Are you speaking of the white pouches with the hair like things coming out the top?

2012 mystery finally solved.
